圣诞节亮灯¶
Christmas Lights Switch-On Event in the UK
Every year in the UK, there is a Christmas lights switch-on event. Generally, starting in November, various cities or streets hold their own switch-on ceremonies. Some locations even invite well-known guests to participate. This event is very lively and, apart from having bands performing, most areas also set up Christmas markets with a variety of snacks, entertainment, and specialty items for sale. The event attracts a large crowd of people who gather together to countdown and light up all the street lights. In some areas, fireworks are also displayed. This event signifies the approaching Christmas season and the upcoming new year. The illuminated lights refer to the various shapes and colors of lights displayed on the streets in the UK, which are incredibly beautiful and help create a festive atmosphere similar to how households in our country put up couplets on doors and hang lanterns or Chinese knots during the Chinese New Year. Most of the larger cities in the UK have their own switch-on events, but the most lively, bustling, and interesting ones are typically held in London. Most of these events are free.
Now, let Ten Sheng Miao tell you about the timing of the 2019 switch-on event. Of course, this guide is not only applicable to 2019 but also to future switch-on events such as those in 2020 and beyond. The Christmas lights switch-on events in the UK have rarely changed over the years, and cancellations are also very rare. Therefore, apart from the specific switch-on dates varying each year, everything else remains mostly the same.

2019 marked the 200th anniversary of Regent Street, and this year's light switch-on ceremony was a celebration of this significant milestone in London's history. Some of the street's shops joined in the celebration, and a series of exciting activities were held, including discounts on merchandise and musical performances. The awe-inspiring "Spirit of Christmas" lights on Regent Street and St. James's were inspired by the Christmas lights of Regent Street in 1954 and are the capital's largest lighting installation. Due to the large number of people expected to attend, traffic restrictions will be implemented around Regent Street.
