Why is the name so long?

Due to the incredibly long name, some internet users believe that the reason this small town in the UK has such a long name is possibly because their cats named it.

Hahaha, of course it's not the cats...

In reality, the name of this small village was not always so long. Originally, it was called Llanfair Pwllgwyngyll, which meant 'The Mary Church by the pool near the White Hazels' when translated into English. It was not until the 19th century that it was renamed.

Based on historical background, in 1563, Llanfairpwll was inhabited by only 80 people, with a total of 16 houses in the entire village. By 1801, the population had increased to 385 people, and the number of houses grew to 83. However, by 1844, 92% of the land in the town belonged to three individuals, leaving only 8% for other residents, indicating the living conditions of the remaining residents.

Finally, in 1850, a committee was formed due to the construction of a railway between Chester and Holyhead. The committee aimed to promote commerce and tourism and hoped to attract more businessmen and tourists to the town of Llanfairpwll, transforming it into a commercial and tourist center. That's when the name was chosen to attract businessmen and visitors.

The name indeed had a remarkable effect, as the town became globally renowned. Tourists from all over the world now visit the town, drawn by its fame. Tenliang Miao reminds everyone to remember to get a postmark as a memento and buy some unique local souvenirs, as the postmark here is shaped like a spiral staircase.

Legend has it that the name 'Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogogoch' was invented by a cobbler from Menai Bridge. However, this cobbler had no idea that he had inadvertently implemented one of the most successful tourism marketing campaigns in history!

In addition to the long name "Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogogoch," the town can also be referred to as "Llanfairpwll" or "Llanfair P.G."
