买电饭煲¶

How to buy a rice cooker in the UK?

When purchasing a rice cooker in the UK, the prices can vary from tens of pounds to several hundred pounds. There are more options available for larger capacity cookers compared to smaller ones, and there are also more choices for models with fewer features compared to those with more features. Online stores offer a wider selection than physical stores.

1、

purchase from physical stores

(1)

Market.

Generally speaking, in slightly larger cities, you can find rice cookers in places that sell electronic products or general stores within the market. However, the brands are usually average, the appearance is ordinary, and they don't have many advanced features. Nevertheless, they have a larger capacity. The prices are a bit high, but you can negotiate the price.

At that time, I bought a rice cooker from a general store in the market in Birmingham. I managed to negotiate a few pounds off the price, but the quality was really good. It primarily had a rice cooking function.

(2)

Chinese supermarkets.

Small Chinese supermarkets generally do not sell rice cookers, but slightly larger ones might have them. The prices are usually high, and they mostly offer rice cookers with larger capacities.

(3)

Japanese and Korean stores.

Similar to Chinese supermarkets, very small stores may not have rice cookers, but larger ones generally do. The prices are relatively high, but there are multiple options available in different price ranges, and there are more choices in terms of functionality.

For example, H Mart offers a wide range of rice cookers, but they can be quite expensive. However, there are relatively cheaper options as well, such as rice cookers suitable for three servings priced at around 60 pounds.

Note: Most rice cookers in physical stores have large capacities, and it's rare to find small and compact rice cookers of around 1.5L suitable for 1-2 people. Similarly, it's uncommon to find rice cookers with multiple advanced features combined into one.

2、

Online shopping from web stores.

Web stores such as Amazon, eBay, Argos, online stores of Japanese and Korean supermarkets, and online stores of Chinese supermarkets, and so on.

If you want to buy a small rice cooker for 1-2 people, such as a 1.5L capacity, with a stylish design and slightly more features, you can consider bringing one from your home country. However, as long as you find the price reasonable in the UK, you can also purchase rice cookers there. They are available in various sizes, including small ones like 1.5L or 1.6L, but small capacity rice cookers are scarce and less common, with fewer features. It may not be easy to find them. On the other hand, there is a wide range of options for larger capacity rice cookers, making it more convenient to buy directly in the UK.

In the UK, there aren't too many brands specifically dedicated to rice cookers. Some notable brands include Supor, Midea, Russell Hobbs, Tefal, Yum Asia, Lakeland, Ninja, and Zojirushi (which offers not only rice cookers but also cups and other products).

Reminder: When buying a rice cooker in the UK, it's advisable to choose Asian brands as they tend to produce rice that better suits our taste. Also, try to select slightly higher-priced options, as extremely cheap rice cookers may result in rice that is undercooked or not as enjoyable to eat.
