Can the UK visa fee and IHS healthcare surcharge be refunded?
It seems that many students are seeking refunds for their visa fees. Previously, Ten Sheng Miao encountered a student who obtained a CAS from the University of Birmingham. However, after completing all the necessary arrangements, the student received an offer from UCL and immediately decided to abandon Birmingham and choose UCL. This situation raises the issue of fee refunds, including the UK visa fee and the IHS surcharge.
The IHS, which stands for Immigration Health Surcharge, is paid to access healthcare services under the NHS (National Health Service) in the UK.
Here's how it works: If you have already provided your fingerprints, the visa fee cannot be refunded. Even if you still go to the UK but change to a different university, the fee will not be refunded. However, if you have not yet provided your fingerprints and have completed the payment of the visa fee, the system will automatically send you a confirmation email to your registered email address. In this confirmation email, there will be a link to apply for a refund of the visa fee. You can follow the instructions in the email to apply for the refund.
Now, regarding the IHS fee, whether it can be refunded or not, the official information about IHS refunds is provided in the image below.

So, the refund of the IHS fee depends on the situation, and you don't need to apply for it. The IHS fee will be automatically refunded to your account or credit card, among other methods.

If the duration of the visa granted is shorter than the duration requested.
If any dependents listed on your visa application are refused.
When will the IHS fee not be refunded?
If your visa application is approved, but you do not travel to the UK.
If you leave the UK before your visa expires, for example, to apply for a new visa.
If you are instructed to leave the UK before your visa expires.
If you are applying for indefinite leave to remain or switching to another visa category where IHS payment is not required.
Typically, this refund process takes around 6 weeks from the visa application.
