16 universities in the UK accept Chinese high school exam scores for direct undergraduate applications.
University of Cambridge
The University of Cambridge in the UK has released the latest admission information. From 2017 to 2018, a total of 420 Chinese students were enrolled in undergraduate programs, and a total of 754 Chinese students were enrolled in master's programs at Cambridge University.
Apart from accepting A-level and IB scores, Cambridge University also accepts Chinese high school exam scores. This means that students can apply for undergraduate programs at Cambridge University using their Chinese high school exam scores, without the need to study foundation courses or A-levels before advancing to higher education. However, it should be noted that Chinese high school exam scores may vary depending on the province and year.
To be accepted, students must achieve scores that place them within the top 0.1% of their province's ranking. Additionally, their academic performance exams, known as the "Hui Kao," will also be evaluated. Of course, applicants must also meet the English language proficiency requirements for their chosen program, typically through achieving a certain score on the IELTS exam.
Admissions officers at Cambridge University recommend that students actively participate in Olympiad competitions or other internationally recognized tests such as SAT I or II or AP exams during high school. This helps enhance students' overall abilities."
2. University of Birmingham
In addition to the University of Cambridge, the University of Birmingham in the UK also started accepting Chinese high school exam scores from 2019. The University of Birmingham was the first university in the Russell Group of universities to announce its acceptance of Chinese high school exam scores for students aspiring to study undergraduate programs at their institution. Considering that high school graduates in China are typically 18 years old, and undergraduate studies take around three years, students who progress to a master's degree can potentially obtain a UK master's diploma by the age of 22 at the earliest.
This means that Chinese students can directly pursue undergraduate studies in UK universities without having to take A-levels or similar qualifications, saving a significant amount of time.
Currently, the University of Birmingham only considers accepting high school exam scores with an average score (converted to a percentage) of at least 80% or above. In other words, students need to achieve a score of 600 or above out of the maximum score of 750 in the high school exam. They also require the high school graduation certificate, and the average scores of the second and third years of high school should be 85% or above. Additionally, students must meet the language requirements of their chosen program."
3. University of Leicester
The University of Leicester in the UK also started partially accepting Chinese high school exam scores from 2019. However, there are some important points to note:
As of now, the University of Leicester only accepts students from Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangdong regions who wish to apply for undergraduate programs in 2019 using their Chinese high school exam scores. However, applications for medical-related programs are not accepted.
Only students who have obtained their high school exam scores can apply to the university based on those scores. This means that students who have not yet taken the high school exam cannot apply.
Applicants need to meet the language requirements for their chosen program, which usually include achieving a certain score on the IELTS exam.
The average score of the high school exam (converted to a percentage) should be at least 80% or above. For example, if the maximum score in the high school exam is 750, a score of 600 or above would be required to meet the minimum requirement."
