Government council tax rebate in the UK
Reminder: It is essential to check your mailbox and email inbox daily. It is recommended to check your email inbox a few times a day, while the mailbox refers to physical mail.
If your property falls within council tax bands A to D, you will receive a letter instructing you to claim a tax rebate of £150 either online or at the post office. This rebate is intended to assist you in covering living expenses.
International students renting accommodation are also eligible to claim, including those living in student apartments. However, it is necessary to receive the letter before making the claim. The letters are currently being sent out gradually.
Reminder: If you haven't received the letter but still qualify within council tax bands A to D, you can apply online independently.
Why is the UK providing a £150 tax rebate?
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been a significant increase in energy prices, such as a doubling of natural gas prices. This has had a substantial impact on UK residents. Therefore, the UK government decided to send out letters offering a tax rebate of £150 starting from April 2022 to help individuals with their living expenses.
Reminder: In addition to the £150 rebate, there will be further rebates ranging from approximately £50 to £500 issued to eligible individuals. Many international students have already received rebates ranging from tens of pounds to over £100.
